Visalia, CA – The Visalia Rawhide (49-68, 21-30) used five pitchers from their bullpen to throw 4.2 scoreless innings in a 5-3 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (56-61, 20-31) on Friday night at Valley Strong Ballpark.
The Rawhide bullpen did not allow a hit with just three baserunners allowed over their dominant outing. Visalia has allowed a combined just seven runs over the first three games of the series.
Rancho Cucamonga took an early lead scratching across runs in the first and third innings. The Rawhide rally started in the fourth. Weber Neels led off with a single, advanced to second on a fielders’ choice and scored on Adriel Radney’s RBI single.
The Quakes added a run in the top of the fifth but the bottom of the fifth proved to be the decisive frame. Tytus Cissell led off with a single and came around to score on Jack Spanier’s RBI knock. Ryder Helfrick then lasered a ball off the centerfield wall for a game tying RBI triple- the first of his pro career.
Neels then gave the Rawhide the lead with a go-ahead RBI single through the left side to score Helfrick. Radney capped the four run frame with another RBI single.
Daniel Nunez earned the win for Visalia as the first in relief, securing two outs to escape a jam in the fifth. Andrew Wertz made his pro debut with a scoreless frame and two strikeouts. Erick Reynoso tossed a perfect inning and Ricardo Yan worked a scoreless eighth. Samuel Gonzalez then earned his second save of the season with an in-order ninth frame.
Radney finished with his first Rawhide three hit day while Spanier, Neels and Cissell all added two hit performances. Cissell extended his on-base streak to nine games while adding two more stolen bases for a California League high 12 stolen bases on the month.
Visalia is seven games out of a playoff spot with 15 games left to play on the season.
