Quick works Double-A-high five innings as Wichita drops game five in Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. — The Wichita Wind Surge (26-36) fell 8-6 to the Tulsa Drillers (37-25) in game five of a six-game series Saturday night at ONEOK Field despite multi-hit performances from Kyle DeBarge, Marek Houston and Caden Kendle.
DeBarge did it all for Wichita, collecting a pair of singles for his 24th multi-hit performance of the season while making several strong defensive plays at third base. Houston tallied three hits for his 19th multi-hit performance, while Kendle collected three of hits and drove in three runs. Andrew Cossetti extended his on-base streak to seven games and drove in a run.
On the mound, Riley Quick was sharp early, holding Tulsa to one hit through 4 2/3 innings. The right-hander allowed a solo homer in the fifth before the Drillers added two more runs against him in the sixth. Quick finished with three runs allowed while striking out five over five innings, his longest outing at the Double-A level. Luis Quiñones also logged a scoreless appearance in the loss.
THE RUNDOWN
Quick started on the mound for the Wind Surge and generated plenty of swing-and-miss early, striking out three over his first two innings while keeping Tulsa hitless.
Quick continued to cruise into the fifth before the Drillers broke through with two outs on a solo homer that cleared the wall in left field. The right-hander finished five innings with one run allowed on two hits while striking out five, and Wichita trailed 1-0 after five.
The Wind Surge took the lead in the top of the sixth, using a single and a double to put two runners in scoring position before an infield single and a throwing error brought home two runs. A walk followed by an RBI single from Cossetti plated another run to give Wichita a 3-1 advantage.
Tulsa responded in the bottom half, scoring three runs on two walks, three singles and an RBI groundout to take a 4-3 lead.
The Drillers added four runs in the bottom of the seventh, using a walk, a single and a double to plate two before launching a two-run homer to extend their lead to 8-3.
The Surge loaded the bases in the eighth and brought home a run on a walk.They continued their rally in the ninth scoring a pair and putting the tying run on base but could not overcome the deficit, falling 8-6.
