McDaniel launches first Double-A homer as Wichita takes 2-1 series lead

WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge (29-37) took game three of a six-game series with a 3-1 victory over the Frisco RoughRiders (32-34) Thursday night at Equity Bank Park in front of 6,601 fans. Six innings of one-run baseball from Ty Langenberg, the longest outing by a Wind Surge pitcher this season.
Quinn McDaniel led the way offensively, launching his first home run at the Double-A level. Brandon Winokur also drove in a pair of runs for his ninth multi-RBI performance of the season.
On the mound, Langenberg delivered six innings of one-run baseball, the longest outing by a Wind Surge pitcher this season. Spencer Bengard struck out three over two scoreless innings of relief before Kyle Bischoff recorded the final three outs to earn the save.
THE RUNDOWN
The Wind Surge opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, using a leadoff walk and a stolen base to put a runner in scoring position before a pair of fly balls brought him home to give Wichita a 1-0 lead.
Langenberg started on the mound for the Surge and was sharp early, allowing just two hits while striking out one over three scoreless innings.
Wichita added to its lead in the bottom of the third when McDaniel launched a solo homer into the bullpen, his first at the Double-A level, to make it 2-0.
Frisco cut into the lead in the top of the sixth, using an RBI double to plate a run. Langenberg finished his outing after six innings, allowing one run on six hits in the longest start by a Wind Surge pitcher this season.
The Surge answered in the bottom of the sixth when Khadim Diaw led off with a double before Winokur drove him home with a single to extend Wichita's lead to 3-1.
Bengard followed with two scoreless innings of relief before Bischoff worked a scoreless ninth to secure the 3-1 victory.
