Wichita collects double-digit hits in 10-8 loss to Frisco, closes final season as Wind Surge

WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge (30-39) fell 10-8 to the Frisco RoughRiders (34-35) in the season finale Sunday afternoon at Equity Bank Park, despite six multi-hit performances from the Wichita lineup.
Brandon Winokur led the offense with four hits and three RBIs. Marek Houston, Garrett Spain, Kyle DeBarge, Danny De Andrade and Luis Hernandez also collected multiple hits in the loss. Mitch Mueller and Kyle Bischoff logged scoreless relief appearances in the season finale.
THE RUNDOWN
The Wind Surge opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, using a single and a double to put two runners in scoring position before plating a run on an RBI groundout.
Preston Johnson started on the mound for the Surge and was sharp early, allowing just one hit over two scoreless innings.
Wichita added another run in the bottom of the second, using three consecutive hits to extend its lead to 2-0.
Frisco responded in the top of the third with a solo homer followed by a three-run shot. The RoughRiders continued to add on, loading the bases later in the inning before a two-run single gave Frisco a 6-2 lead.
The Wind Surge pulled a run back in the bottom of the fifth, using a single and a walk to put a runner in scoring position before DeBarge drove him home to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Wichita added another run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single to make it 6-4.
Frisco answered with three runs in the top of the seventh, but the Surge plated a run of their own in the bottom half to remain within striking distance at 9-5.
The RoughRiders added one more run in the top of the eighth before Wichita took advantage of an error in the bottom half to plate one of their own.
The Wind Surge pulled two back in the bottom of the ninth to bring up the tying run to the plate, but the comeback bid fell short with a 10-8 final.
