Around the Farm: Keep Your Nose To The Grindstone

July 7th, 2026

Washington Nationals

The Nationals kicked off July with an electric 10-2 win over the Boston Red Sox to clinch the series win 2-1. The high-scoring affair was highlighted by a pair of firsts, including Andres Chaparro and Nasim Nunez’s first homers of 2026. Chaparro broke the scoreboard open for the Nats early on with a two-run shot over the Green Monster, and Washington went on to improve to an 11-3-1 road series record.

The Nationals returned home to celebrate Independence Day Weekend with a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Once again, the home runs highlighted the evening as the Nationals jumped out to a 9-5 victory in game one. Former Blue Rock Daylen Lile led the squad with two home runs, two doubles, and four RBIs, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Unfortunately, Washington could not keep the bats hot as they battled an intense heat wave, which brought temperatures above 100 degrees. Pittsburgh ultimately took the series 2-1 with back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday. However, there was no time for rest as Washington immediately headed into a three-game set with Houston.

Former Blue Rock James Wood led the charge against the Astros with his second career grand slam in game one. Wood’s huge hit in the bottom of the fifth secured a 12-11 victory for the Nationals to take the lead in the series. Washington looks to close out the series with Houston on Wednesday, July 8, before taking on the New York Yankees.

Rochester Red Wings

Rochester came just shy of clinching a playoff spot after an immaculate first-half performance. The first-half of the season concluded on Sunday, June 21. Heading into the final stretch of the first-half, the Red Wings looked strong, tied for first place with the Memphis Red Birds. Rochester pushed until the end but ultimately finished one game behind Memphis. However, the hunt for the playoffs is still on as the Red Wings look to bounce back in the second-half of the season.

Rochester started the second half on the right foot with a 4-2 series win over the Charlotte Knights before returning home to take on the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. The Red Wings struggled to get the bats hot against the Iron Pigs as they dropped the first three games of the series. However, the Red Wings found their groove on Friday, July 3, as former Blue Rock Jackson Kent led the charge from the mound. Kent tossed five innings, allowing only one earned run and five hits while striking out four.

Rochester will look to break away from the pack in the standings with a road series against the Worcester Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, at 6:45 pm.

Harrisburg Senators

The second half of the season began on a bitter note for the Harrisburg Senators as they came just one run shy of a comeback win against the Richmond Flying Squirrels in game one of the series. However, Harrisburg bounced back the following evening with a five-spot in the eighth inning. A two-run single from former Blue Rock T.J. White established a significant late-inning lead to carry the Senators to victory. White saw continued success at the plate the following evening with his first career home run at the Double-A level. In the bottom of the sixth, White knocked in a two-run homer to left field to push the Senators to a 6-1 lead as they went on to win game three 8-4.

Ultimately, the Senators took the series win 4-2 against the Flying Squirrels, who clinched the Southwest Division in the first half of the season. Harrisburg looks to hit the ground running against the Erie Seawolves, who are currently nursing a near-perfect 11-1 record in the second half of the season. First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, at 6:05 pm.

Fredericksburg Nationals

The Fredericksburg Nationals are riding high after clinching the Northern Division title on Sunday, June 21. With a 46-20 record in the first half, the Nationals earned a program-first first-half title and a spot in the 2026 playoffs. Fredericksburg won the second-half Northern Division title back-to-back in 2024 and 2025 and went on to win the Carolina League Championship against the Kannapolis Cannonballers 2-1 in 2024.

With a playoff berth already secured, the Nationals have not let up on the gas, already in second place in the division with an 8-7 record. Coming off a split series with the Columbia Fireflies, Fredericksburg is currently on a two-game losing skid. The Nationals will look to get back into the win column against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. First pitch is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, at 7:05 pm.
