Warbirds Blanked in Second Straight Loss

SALEM, VA - The Wilson Warbirds fell for the second straight night, losing 8-0 to the Salem RidgeYaks on Wednesday night at Salem Memorial Ballpark.

Salem (50-63, 25-23 second half) scored early in the bottom of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a Kleyver Salazar single.

Two innings later, Wilson (60-52, 24-22 second half) allowed another three runs as the RidgeYaks raced out to a 4-0 advantage. Andrews Opata mashed his tenth home run of the year to score three runs and break the game open.

Salem scored another four in the fifth inning as Avinson Pinto threw the knockout punch with a two-run double.

The Warbirds were unable to erase the 8-0 deficit. 

Joey Broughton (L, 0-4) was the losing pitcher for Wilson. Christian Foutch (W, 1-5) captured his first victory of the year. Ethan Walker (S, 2) threw four shutout innings to record the save.

The Warbirds have a chance to earn their first win of the series tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. RHP Miqueas Mercedes (2-1, 3.16) has the ball for Wilson against RHP Williams Montero (0-2, 21.21).
