FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Wilson Warbirds suffered their biggest loss of the season on Friday night, losing 24-2 to the Fredericksburg Nationals at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.
Fredericksburg (78-51, 32-31 second half) put the game away as it started, pouring on eight runs in the bottom of the first inning on a slew of Wilson (64-64, 28-34 second half) miscues.
The Warbirds pulled two back in the top of the second inning on a pair of walks drawn by Kyle Jones and Brailyn Antunez.
From that point forward, Fredericksburg scored the next 16 runs of the game. The FredNats plated one in the second, four in the third, three in the fourth, seven in the seventh, and one in the eighth to open up an insurmountable 24-2 lead.
Jacob Weaver (W, 1-1) threw a 4.2-inning chunk in the middle to earn his first win as a National. Dariel Jaquez (L, 0-1) took the loss in his first start as a Warbird.
Wilson and Fredericksburg play in the penultimate game of the regular season tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. LHP Frank Cairone (0-0, 0.00) makes his first start for the Warbirds against RHP Leuris Portorreal (3-3, 4.96 ERA) of Fredericksburg.
