Polanco Ends the Year on a High Note

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Wilson Warbirds' bats were silenced by the Fredericksburg Nationals in a 7-2 loss during Sunday afternoon’s season finale at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

Fredericksburg (80-51, 34-31) drew first blood in the second inning on a Rafael Ramirez Jr. single to take a 1-0 lead.

The Nationals scored another in the third inning when a wild pitch brought home Hunter Hines to double the lead.

Avery Ortiz gave Fredericksburg a 3-0 lead with a double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wilson (64-66, 28-36) could not hold the Nationals off the scoreboard, as Fredericksburg added three insurance runs in the sixth inning. Singles from Hines and Manuel Cabrera combined to drive in all three runs and push the lead to 6-0. 

The Warbirds loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning and were able to do some damage, with Filippo Di Turi putting the ball in play. Fredericksburg made an error, allowing two runs to score. Fredericksburg escaped the inning without any further damage to win 7-2.

The 2027 season begins on Friday, August 2nd at home against the Augusta Green Jackets. Season ticket plans and packages will be on sale soon.
