WILSON, N.C. - The Wilson Warbirds fell to the Fredericksburg Nationals for the second night in a row, dropping Friday night’s game 11-9 at Wilson Ballpark.
Fredericksburg (62-38, 16-18 second half) took the game’s first lead just two batters into the game when Coy James launched a two-run home run.
Wilson (51-47, 15-17 second half) answered back in the bottom of the first on an RBI triple from Alexander Frias to cut the lead in half at 2-1.
Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the third, Brady Ebel brought the game to within a run with his ninth home run of the year, plating two. The Warbirds were not done in the frame as Antunez and Anderson singled in runs to hand Wilson a 5-4 lead.
A five-run sixth gave Fredericksburg the lead back at 9-5. The Nats notched six straight hits in the frame to knock Joey Broughton (L, 0-2) out of the game.
Wilson clawed back to within two a couple of times, but stranded the tying run on base in the eighth and ninth innings. A two-run home run by Gavin Fien in the eighth inning put the game away.
Adam Bogosian (W, 1-1) notched his first win of the season, and Kai Peterson (S, 1) took his first save.
The two teams return to Wilson Ballpark tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Miqueas Mercedes (2-1, 3.52) makes the start for the Warbirds against RHP Alexander Meckley (3-2, 4.41) for Fredericksburg. Tickets for the game are available at WilsonWarbirds.com or by calling (919) 269-2287.
