FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Wilson Warbirds could not prevent the big inning, falling 11-3 to the Fredericksburg Nationals on Tuesday night at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.
Fredericksburg (75-51, 29-31 second half) hopped on the scoreboard first, taking a 1-0 lead on a Hunter Hines RBI single.
In the top of the second inning, Rylan Mills and Wilson (64-61, 28-31 second half) tied the game with a solo home run.
Fredericksburg had the quick response, playing three in the bottom of the second. A Jordan Williams single and Juan Cruz home run extended the lead to 4-1.
The homer party continued for the FredNats, as Elian Soto and Avery Ortiz left the yard in the home half of the third to stretch the lead to 7-1.
Once more, Mills had the answer for the Warbirds, pelting his second dinger of the game to cut the lead to 7-2.
Ortiz answered Mills with his second of the game to push the advantage to 11-2, eventually locking up an 11-3 win.
Joey Broughton (L, 0-6) was the losing pitcher for the Warbirds, while Dick Lovelady (W, 1-0) took home the win.
The Warbirds and FredNats play tomorrow morning at 11:05 a.m. RHP Ma’Kale Holden (0-0, 0.00) makes his first start as a Warbird against RHP Noah Millikan (2-2, 7.97) for the Nationals.
