FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Wilson Warbirds’ offense was stagnant on Saturday night in a 6-1 loss to the Fredericksburg Nationals at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.
Fredericksburg (79-51, 33-31 second half) jumped on the scoreboard first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. A Coy James walk and a Frank Cairone (L, 0-1) balk gave the Nationals an early 2-0 lead.
The FredNats extended the lead in the third. Elain Soto made it a 4-0 game with a two-run single to score both Gavin Fien and Juan Cruz.
Wilson (64-65, 28-35) scraped a run back in the top of the sixth inning as Carsten Sabathia drove in Brailyn Antunez with a base hit to cut the lead to 4-1.
The Nationals plated two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh on a Rafael Ramirez Jr. single and a sacrifice fly from Cashel Dugger.
A ninth-inning walk by Kyle Jones and a single from Brailyn Antunez cut the lead to 6-3, but Wilson left the tying run on base.
Alexander Meckley (W, 6-4) was credited with the win.
Wilson and Fredericksburg play tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. in the regular-season finale. RHP Hayden Robinson (4-2, 5.20) makes the final start of the year for the Warbirds against LHP Juan Reyes (2-0, 1.96).
