WILSON, N.C. - The Wilson Warbirds were swept for the first time this season after falling 6-2 to the Hickory Crawdads on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Ballpark.
Hickory (77-47, 43-17 second half) struck first again as Jay McQueen drove in Paulino Santana with a single in the first.
Leading 1-0 in the third, Hickory loaded the bases with nobody out and took advantage. McQueen drove in his second run of the game with another base hit, and Brandon Crabtree followed him with a two-run knock to extend the lead to 4-0.
Kaden Carpenter joined the scoring party for the Crawdads in the fourth by adding a solo home run to increase the lead to 5-0.
Wilson’s (64-60, 28-30 second half) Brailyn Antunez led off the seventh inning with a single and came in to score on an error by Hickory, cutting the lead to 5-1.
Down 6-1 in the eighth, Trey Ebel blasted his first professional home run to trim the lead to 6-2, but the Warbirds could not add on.
