LYNCHBURG, VA - The Wilson Warbirds took down the Hill City Howlers 6-3 on Tuesday night at Bank of the James Stadium behind three home runs and a stellar outing from Tyler Renz.
Hill City (43-60, 12-25 second half) opened up the scoring in the bottom of the third inning behind a Johan Rodriguez two-run home run to take a 2-0 lead.
Wilson (53-47, 17-17 second half) responded in the fifth with a pair of big flies. First, Rylan Mills tanked a solo shot to left-center field to cut the lead in half. Then, Jose Anderson tied the game at two with his league-leading 22nd home run.
The Warbirds weren’t finished, taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Brailyn Antunez blasted the go-ahead homer to hand Wilson the lead for good.
Handelfry Encarnacion’s two-run double in the seventh tacked on insurance runs, plating Anderson and Pedro Ibarguen. Brady Ebel drove in Frederi Montero to give the Warbirds a 6-2 lead.
Diustin Mayorquin (W, 2-0) earned his second win for Wilson, while Tyler Renz (S, 1) allowed just one run in the 6-3 victory to bring home his first save.
Javi Torres (1-5) was the losing pitcher for Hill City.
The two teams are back in action tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Wilson hands the ball to RHP Carlos Carra (3-8, 5.59) against LHP Miguel Flores (5-6, 5.21).
