SALEM, VA. - The Wilson Warbirds could not keep the Salem RidgeYaks off the scoreboard on Tuesday night, falling 21-4 to the Salem RidgeYaks in the series lidlifter.
Salem (50-63, 25-23 second half) punched early and often, racing out to a 4-0 lead after just one inning of play.
Wilson (60-52, 24-22 second half) tried to rally in the top of the second, scoring a run on a Carsten Sabathia III double.
Salem immediately responded with a run to increase the lead to 5-1.
Handelfry Encarnacion and Juan Ortuño were able to drive home two more in the top of the third to slice the lead to 5-3, but that was as close as Wilson would come.
Salem scored another seven in the third, three in the fourth, and six in the fifth to blow the game wide open and cruise to a 21-4 victory.
Joan Peña (L, 0-1) was the losing pitcher for the Warbirds. Nicolas De La Cruz (W, 6-3) took home the win for Salem.
The Warbirds return to action tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. in Salem. LHP Joey Broughton (0-3, 5.55) will toe the rubber for the Warbirds against Salem’s RHP Christian Foutch (0-5, 5.81).
