The Winston-Salem Dash (18-12) combined timely power with dominant pitching to earn a 7-3 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades (15-14) on Thursday night.
Balls were flying through the night sky in Wappingers Falls on Thursday night, and the Winston-Salem Dash made sure plenty of them cleared the fence.
Winston-Salem launched three home runs in a 7-3 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades, continuing a power-heavy stretch at the plate.
After falling behind early, the Dash answered with home runs from Ryan Burrowes, T.J. McCants, and Kaleb Freeman across the middle innings to take control of the game.
Hudson Valley grabbed an early lead in the second inning on an RBI single from Josh Moylan, but the Dash answered in the fourth.
After a pair of hit batters put traffic on the bases, Grant Magill lined an RBI single to left field to tie the game at 1-1.
Winston-Salem took control an inning later.
Leading off the fifth, Burrowes launched a solo home run to left field to give the Dash their first lead of the night. Later in the inning, Kyle Lodise delivered a two-run single to right-center, extending the advantage to 4-1.
The Dash added another run in the sixth when McCants crushed a solo home run to left.
Hudson Valley attempted to rally in the seventh. Moylan connected on a two-run homer to trim the deficit to 5-3, but Winston-Salem responded immediately in the eighth.
Freeman opened the inning with a solo home run before Burrowes added an RBI single later in the frame to stretch the lead to 7-3.
On the mound, the Dash pitching staff continued its strong series. Winston-Salem struck out 17 batters and limited the Renegades' offense to six hits in the victory.
Frankeli Arias (3-0) earned the win in relief, while the bullpen combined to close out the final five innings.
Winston-Salem will look to continue the momentum as the series rolls on.
