The Winston-Salem Dash announced today that David Lane will become the organization’s new President/General Manager, succeeding Brian DeAngelis, who is leaving the organization to become Chief Revenue Officer of the University of Central Florida Athletics Department.
Lane joins the Dash from the Rome Emperors, where he has served as General Manager since 2022. During his tenure, Lane helped lead the organization through its transition from the Rome Braves to the Rome Emperors, while continuing to build on the club’s strong connection with the community. He brought more than 20 years of professional sports experience to Rome, including leadership roles with the Charleston RiverDogs, Greenville Drive, Greeneville Astros and Fayetteville Woodpeckers.
“I’m incredibly excited to take on this next chapter with the Dash and become part of the Winston-Salem community,” said Lane. “There is a tremendous foundation already in place, and I’m looking forward to getting to know our staff, partners and fans, building on that foundation together and seeing just how much we can accomplish.”
Lane’s career includes being named Appalachian League Executive of the Year in 2009 and 2010 and receiving the league’s Promotional Award of Excellence three consecutive years from 2007-09. He was also the inaugural General Manager of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, helping launch the club in 2019, and in 2021 helped launch the Birmingham Squadron of the NBA G League as its General Manager.
“David has been a tremendous leader for the Emperors, and we’re excited to bring his experience and energy to Winston-Salem,” said Pat Battle and Peter Freund, Executive Chairman and CEO of Diamond Baseball Holdings, respectively. “He understands what it takes to build a strong local organization and create an exceptional experience for fans, partners and the community. We’re confident he’ll build on the momentum the Dash have established in recent years.”
The Dash's season continues tonight after they advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. Game 1 of the South Atlantic League Division Series between the Dash and Bowling Green Hot Rods is set for 6:30 p.m. tonight, September 8, at Truist Stadium.
