The Chicago White Sox have assigned shortstop Roch Cholowsky, the No. 1 overall selection in the 2026 MLB Draft, to the Winston-Salem Dash.
Cholowsky joins Winston-Salem less than two weeks after the White Sox selected him with the first overall pick out of UCLA on July 11. The 21-year-old finished a decorated collegiate career with another standout season for the Bruins in 2026, batting .320 with 21 home runs, 60 RBIs and 73 runs scored while starting all 60 games at shortstop.
Cholowsky was named the Big Ten Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and was also selected as a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award. A native of Chandler, Arizona, Cholowsky played three seasons at UCLA and emerged as one of the top players in college baseball. As a sophomore in 2025, he hit .353 with 23 home runs before following with another 20-home run season during his junior campaign.
The 6-foot-2, 202-pound infielder becomes the first no. 1 overall pick for the White Sox since Harold Baines in 1977. He also becomes the first no. 1 overall pick to ever play in a Dash uniform as he begins his climb through the organization.
The Winston-Salem Dash are back at Truist Stadium August 4–9 for a six-game homestand against the Asheville Tourists, offering fans their first chance to potentially see Cholowsky in a Dash uniform. Tickets are available now on our website or by calling 336-714-2287.
