WASHINGTON -- The Nationals have eight players -- second baseman Danny Espinosa, outfielder Roger Bernadina, catchers Spencer Kieboom and Adrian Nieto, outfielder Randolph Oduber and pitchers Robbie Cordemans, James Van Ostrand and Matthew Torra -- who were put on World Baseball Classic provisional rosters on Thursday afternoon.
The rosters were announced on MLB Network and simulcast on MLB.com.
Espinosa and Bernadina will represent Mexico and the Netherlands, respectively. This will be the first time both players will play in the Classic.
Espinosa and Bernadina are two reasons the Nats won the National League East title last season. Coming off the bench, Bernadina hit .291 with a .372 on-base percentage. Espinosa, Washington's everyday second baseman, played great defense, hit 17 home runs and drove in 56 runs.
The remaining six players are from the Nationals' Minor League system, and three of them -- Kieboom, Cordemans and Oduber -- will join Bernadina on the Netherlands team. Van Ostrand (Canada) and Torra (Italy) are expected to play for Triple-A Syracuse this year.
Nieto played for Class A Hagerstown last year and will play for Team Spain in the Classic.
