Nats' Denaburg has TJ surgery (source)

April 5th, 2021

Right-hander Mason Denaburg, the Nationals’ No. 9 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, recently underwent Tommy John surgery, a source told MLB.com’s Jessica Camerato.

The club hasn’t confirmed that Denaburg underwent the procedure, but the pitcher posted a post-surgery picture on his Instagram on Sunday.

This is the latest injury setback for the hard-throwing righty, who slipped in the 2018 Draft due to concerns about his biceps tendinitis, ultimately landing with the Nats as the 27th overall selection.

Denaburg had right shoulder surgery in 2019 and dealt with additional shoulder problems last year before the pandemic shutdown.

The 21-year-old has thrown just 20 1/3 professional innings, all in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League in 2019.
