Rendon takes part in full workout

Nats third baseman experienced tightness in side; sprained MCL doing well

NEW YORK -- Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon, who is on the disabled list because of a sprained left MCL, went through a full workout on Thursday, according to manager Matt Williams.

Rendon hit in the cage, did all of his work in the infield and ran in the outfield. Williams didn't rule out Rendon playing on a rehab assignment for Double-A Harrisburg by Friday. Rendon could play five innings and then play four or five games before rejoining the Major League club.

The reason Rendon hasn't rejoined the team by now is because he had tightness in his side.

"So the knee is good, [but] he had a little tightness on his side. We wanted to shut him down for a couple of days," Williams said. "We wanted to make sure there wasn't an issue, which it doesn't appear to be. If he feels good today, we'll get him out there tomorrow."

In other news, reliever Casey Janssen (shoulder injury) played in an extended spring training game on Thursday and threw 16 pitches without any problems. He will pitch again Monday and meet the Major League team next week before having a rehab assignment for Class A Advanced Potomac.
