Washington Nationals Wounded Warrior amputee softball player Matt Kinsey named MVP of the 2012 Taco Bell All-Star Legend & Celebrity Softball Game

Matt Kinsey, an infielder for the Washington Nationals Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST), was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game yesterday in Kansas City, Mo.

Representing the Nationals as the starting first baseman for the National League team, Kinsey went three for three in the six-inning game, including a home run to help the NL topple the American League, 21-8.

“To take the field representing the Washington Nationals and play with so many celebrities and Hall of Famers in front of thousands of fans was one of the biggest honors of my life,” Kinsey said.

Kinsey’s WWAST teammate Saul Bosquez was also selected to participate in the star-studded event. Playing for the AL, Bosquez was the team’s starting shortstop and went three for three, recording an RBI.

“Besides the birth of my son, this has been one of the greatest experiences of my life,” Bosquez said. “We’re so proud to be here this week wearing the Curly W.”

Fans are encouraged to see how Kinsey, Bosquez and the rest of their celebrity teammates faired when the tape-delayed broadcast of the All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball game is shown on ESPN tonight at approximately 10:30 p.m. ET, following the State Farm Home Run Derby that begins at 8:00 p.m. ET. The game will also be available on ESPN3.com, ESPN Mobile TV and via the WatchESPN app.

The All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game featured Major League Baseball legends alongside celebrities from TV, movies, music and sports. Celebrity participants included “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm, “Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet, “Glee” castmember Chord Overstreet, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel and Olympic Gold Medalist Jennie Finch, among many more. In addition, the game featured MLB Hall of Famers Ernie Banks, Andre Dawson, Rollie Fingers, Mike Piazza and Ozzie Smith.
