Nats activate Espinosa, option him to Minors
Rehab stint done, second baseman will remain with Triple-A Syracuse
PHILADELPHIA -- The Nationals reinstated second baseman Danny Espinosa from the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. The club then optioned Espinosa to Triple-A Syracuse, which was planned before he went on the DL and started his rehab assignment.
Manager Davey Johnson reiterated that he wanted Espinosa, who was rehabbing an ailing right wrist, to straighten out his swing from both sides of the plate.
"I just want to see him become a good hitter -- both the right and the left," Johnson said. "His power will always be there, because he is exceptionally strong. Just don't overthink it. Just keep it simple, center on the ball and try to hit line drives."
It may be hard for Espinosa to come back to the Major Leagues as the Nationals' starting second baseman because rookie Anthony Rendon is doing a great job, entering play Wednesday 23-for-68 (.338) with a home run and six RBIs.
