Blue Jays acquire Hendriks

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired RHP LIAM HENDRIKS from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for C SANTIAGO NESSY.

HENDRIKS, 25, began the regular season in the Blue Jays organization prior to being dealt to Kansas City along with C Erik Kratz for INF Danny Valencia on July 28. In nine games (six starts) for Toronto and Kansas City, the right-hander went 1-2 with a 5.23 ERA. In Buffalo (AAA), Hendriks recorded an 8-1 mark with a 2.33 ERA in 18 games (16 starts) and at time of trade was leading the International League in ERA. The eight-year professional has posted a 3-15 record in 39 Major League games (34 starts) with a 5.92 ERA.

NESSY, 21, signed by the Blue Jays in 2009, posted a .231 average for Lansing and Dunedin last season with 20 XBH and 28 RBI. In five minor league seasons the right-handed hitter has a .248 average with 20 home runs and 113 RBI.
