Pirates Acquire RHP Rob Scahill from Colorado

The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired right-handed pitcher Rob Scahill from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Shane Carle. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The 27-year-old Scahill went 1-0 with a 4.80 ERA (15.0ip/8er) in 12 relief appearances with the Rockies in 2014 and 2-3 with two saves and a 4.32 ERA (58.1ip/28er) in 41 games with Triple-A Colorado Springs. He made eight of his big league appearances with Colorado in September.

Originally selected by Colorado in the eighth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Scahill began his professional career as a starting pitcher before pitching exclusively in relief the last two seasons. He made his Major League debut with the Rockies in 2012 and posted a 1.04 ERA (8.2ip/1er) in six big league games that season. Scahill appeared in a career-high 23 games with Colorado in 2013.

Carle was Pittsburgh's 10th round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. He went 4-8 with a 3.67 ERA (137.1ip/56er) in 27 minor league games (23 starts) between West Virginia and Bradenton in 2014 after going 1-1 with a 2.15 ERA (50.1ip/12er) in 14 games (four starts) with Jamestown in 2013.

Scahill has been added to Pittsburgh's 40-man roster.
