Detroit Tigers acquire Anthony Gose from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Devon Travis

DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers today announced that the club has acquired outfielder Anthony Gose from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for infielder Devon Travis.  

"Anthony is a true center fielder than can provide us with above average defense in center field with a good arm," said Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski. "He possesses above average speed and can steal bases at the major league level. He swings the bat from the left side and we feel that he will continue to improve his offensive game. We are very happy to welcome him to the Club,"

Gose, the 24-year-old lefthander, batted .226 (54x239) with 31 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple, two home runs, 13 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 94 games with the Blue Jays in 2014. He saw action at all three outfield positions, including 11 games at left field, 65 games at center field and 14 games at right field. He combined for an overall .995 fielding percentage (190TC/1E) on the season at all three positions this past season.

The 6-1 native of Paramount, CA was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round of the 2008 First Year Player Draft. He was acquired by the Blue Jays on July 29, 2010 from the Astros and made his major league debut on July 17, 2012 at New York. In parts of three seasons at the major league level, he has batted .234 (129x552) with 71 runs scored, 21 doubles, nine triples, five home runs and 36 RBI in 202 career games.

Travis, 23, batted .298 (118x396) with 68 runs scored, 20 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs and 52 RBI over 100 games with Double A Erie in 2014. He was named the Tigers Minor League Player of the Year in 2013.
