Dodgers present 10th annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway Wednesday

Los Angeles area families will benefit from complimentary turkeys and fixings that will be distributed to pre-selected not for profit organizations

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF), in partnership with Ralphs/Food 4 Less, will host the 10th annual Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Dodger Stadium tomorrow from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This event is part of the Los Angeles Dodgers and LADF's 2014 Season of Giving. Dodger Alumni League members Al "The Bull" Ferrara, "Sweet" Lou Johnson, Matt Luke and Dennis Powell will be on hand to help distribute a complimentary turkey, fixings and reusable canvas bags to 1,200 pre-selected families and not for profit community organizations who will in turn distribute them to Los Angeles area families in need. Levy Restaurants will be on hand providing complimentary Dodger Dogs for these families and organizations.

"The 'Season of Giving' happens year-round for the Dodgers as we are always thinking of our neighbors, creating programs that make an impact in our community and showing gratitude to the city of LA," said Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Dodger owner. "For Thanksgiving, the Dodgers will help those that are underserved by distributing turkey and fixings to more than 1,000 Angelenos in need tomorrow at Dodger Stadium and next Monday, we will join our friends at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in providing 10,000 turkeys to Compton families."

This year, the Dodgers partnered with the offices of Senator Kevin de León, Councilmember Gil Cedillo, Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell and Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez for the 10th annual Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway and each office selected organizations in their respective districts to benefit. Turkeys and fixings are also being provided to pre-selected students in the Dodgers' "Community of Schools," a strategic community partnership to improve the education and wellness of children attending local schools (all Title I) and living in communities surrounding Dodger Stadium. LADF grantees who serve needy kids and families were also pre-selected to receive turkeys and fixings. Additional community organizations will include: Affordable Living for the Aging, Boyle Heights Technology Center, Bresee, Echo Park Recreation Center, El Centro de Pueblo, Inner City Struggle, Ramona Gardens Public Housing Community and Visionary Youth Center.

"Ralphs and Food 4 Less are committed to helping year round in the fight against hunger in the communities we serve," said Kendra Doyle, Ralphs/Food 4 Less Senior Manager of Community Affairs. "We hope these efforts will help make the holidays a little brighter for those in need."

Volunteers from the Dodgers and Ralphs/Food 4 Less will be on hand to distribute Thanksgiving goods in lot P at Dodger Stadium, 1000 Elysian Park Avenue, located inside the Sunset Gate at the Top of the Park, starting at 2:00 p.m. Opening remarks will be given by LADF Executive Director Nichol Whiteman. Levy Restaurants will provide lunch for all volunteers tomorrow.
