Royals ink relief pitcher Jason Frasor to one-year deal

KANSAS CITY, MO (November 28, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have agreed to a one-year contract with right-handed pitcher Jason Frasor, with a mutual option for the 2016 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Frasor, 37, was acquired by the Royals in a July 16 trade with the Texas Rangers, in a move that sent minor league pitcher Spencer Patton to Texas. He pitched in 23 games for KC down the stretch, posting a 3-0 record and a 1.53 ERA (3 ER in 17.2 IP) with four walks and 16 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .217 batting average. He also pitched in seven of the Royals' postseason games, going 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA, earning victories in the Wild Card Game vs. the A's (9-8 in 12 innings) and in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Orioles (2-1). The right-hander posted a combined record of 4-1 with a 1.07 ERA (3 ER in 25.1 IP) in his 32 outings at his home parks during the 2014 season.

Frasor has made 647 career relief appearances, posting a record of 34-35 with 36 saves and a 3.69 ERA. His 34 victories out of the bullpen are tied with the Angels' Huston Street for fourth among active Major Leaguers, while his 647 appearances rank seventh. The Royals are Frasor's fourth club in his 11-year career as he's also spent time with Toronto (2004-11, 2012), the White Sox (2011) and Texas (2013-14).
