A's trade 1B/OF Brandon Moss to the Indians for IF Joey Wendle

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's acquired infielder Joey Wendle from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss, the club announced today.

Moss was named to his first American League All-Star team last year and batted .234 with 25 home runs and 81 RBI in 147 games in his third season with Oakland. He hit .268 with 21 home runs and 66 RBI in 89 games before the All-Star Break and .173 with four home runs and 15 RBI in 58 games after the break. The 31-year-old left-handed hitter had surgery on his right hip following the season. Moss compiled a .254 batting average with 76 home runs and 220 RBI in 376 games in three seasons with the A's.

Wendle batted .253 with eight home runs and 50 RBI in 87 games with Double-A Akron last year. He also hit .455 during a six-game rehab assignment with the Indians affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League after missing nearly six weeks with a broken right hand. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter was originally drafted by Cleveland in the sixth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. Wendle is a .292 career hitter with 28 home runs and 155 RBI in 261 games in three professional seasons. He has appeared in 218 games at second base and 21 at shortstop.
