Marlins acquire right-handed pitcher Andre Rienzo from Chicago White Sox

SAN DIEGO - The Marlins today acquired right-handed pitcher Andre Rienzo from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for left-handed reliever Dan Jennings. The announcement was made by Marlins President of Baseball Operations Michael Hill.

Rienzo split the 2014 season between Triple-A Charlotte and Chicago, going a combined 5-9 with a 5.66 ERA (111.1 IP/70 ER) in 28 games, including 20 starts. The 6-foot-3 right-hander posted a 1-4 mark and 4.05 ERA (46.2/21) in 10 Minor League games, while going 4-5 with a 6.82 mark (64.2/49) in 18 appearances with the White Sox.

A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Rienzo was signed by Chicago as an international free agent on November 17, 2006 and has a career Minor League record of 38-30 with a 3.51 ERA (590.1/230) in 121 appearances. On August 21, 2013, he became the first player born in Brazil to start and win a Major League game with a 5-2 win at Kansas City. He has compiled a 6-8 record and 5.89 ERA (120.2/79) over 28 ML appearances (21 starts).
