Yankees sign left-handed pitcher Chris Capuano

The New York Yankees today announced they have signed left-handed pitcher Chris Capuano to a one-year Major League contract for the 2015 season.

Capuano, 36, made 40 combined appearances (12 starts) with the Red Sox and Yankees in 2014, going 3-4 with a 4.35 ERA (97.1IP, 47ER). After being acquired from the Colorado Rockies on July 24, the Springfield, Mass., native went 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA (65.2IP, 31ER) in 12 starts with the Yankees, producing a 2.87 ERA (31.1IP, 10ER) on the road. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Capuano became the first pitcher to start a game for the Yankees after playing for Boston in the same season since Ray Scarborough did so in 1952.

Selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft, Capuano has made 278 career appearances (221 starts) for Arizona (2003), Milwaukee (2004-10), New York-NL (2011), Los Angeles-NL (2012-13), Boston (2014) and the Yankees (2014), combining to go 76-87 with a 4.28 ERA (1,365.0IP, 649ER).
