Twins Sign Right-Handed Pitcher Tim Stauffer to One-Year Contract

Eric Fryer and Chris Parmelee Outrighted to Triple-A Rochester

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have signed right-handed pitcher Tim Stauffer to a one-year contract worth $2.2 million.

Stauffer, 32, made 44 appearances (3 starts) for the Padres last season, going 6-2 with a 3.50 ERA (64.1 IP, 25 ER), 23 walks and 67 strikeouts. The Portland, Maine native has a career record of 32-34 with a 3.87 ERA (575.0 IP, 247 ER), 193 walks and 435 strikeouts in 183 appearances (73 starts) in parts of nine seasons, all with the Padres.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound right-hander was originally selected fourth overall in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Richmond. He has appeared in at least 31 games in four of the last five seasons and threw 60.0-plus innings in each of the last two years. In his career, he has posted a 2.85 ERA (170.1 IP, 54 ER) in relief while striking out 161, walking 52 and holding opponents to a .240 (150-for-625) batting average.

In addition, the Twins have outrighted catcher Eric Fryer and outfielder Chris Parmelee to Triple-A Rochester. 

The Twins 40-man roster is now at 40.
