ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees completed a three-player trade today, as the Braves have acquired left-handed pitcher Manny Banuelos in exchange for right-handed pitcher David Carpenter and left-handed pitcher Chase Shreve.
Banuelos, 23, made a combined 26 appearances (25 starts) in 2014 between Single-A Tampa, Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre. Banuelos owns a career mark of 21-22 with a 3.29 ERA over six minor league seasons while notching 446 strikeouts over 446.0 innings pitched. Entering the 2012 season, the left-hander was named the 12^th-best prospect on the MLB Network/MLB.com Top 50 Prospects List. Banuelos underwent "Tommy John" surgery in October 2012 and missed the entire 2013 season. The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder was signed as a non-drafted free agent in March 2008 out of Durango, Mexico.
Carpenter, 29, went 6-4 with a 3.54 ERA in 2014, his second season in Atlanta. Carpenter owns a career record of 11-10 with a 3.62 ERA and a 1.08 strikeout/inning pitched (201 K/186.2 IP) mark. The right-hander was originally drafted as a catcher by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 12^th round of the 2006 draft out of West Virginia University.
Shreve, 24, made his Major League debut in 2014 by allowing just one run over 15 relief appearances. The left-hander was drafted by the Braves in the 11^th round of the 2010 draft and owns a 21-16 record and a 3.22 ERA over five minor league seasons.
