Pirates acquire Arquimedes Caminero from Miami

The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired right-handed pitcher Arquimedes Caminero from the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President, General Manager Neal Huntington.

The 27-year-old Caminero went 4-1 with 10 saves, a 4.86 ERA (63.0ip/34er) and 79 strikeouts in 42 relief appearances with Triple-A New Orleans in 2014. He also pitched 6.2 innings while making six relief appearances with the Marlins last season.

Caminero made his Major League debut with the Marlins during the 2013 season and posted a 2.77 ERA (13.0ip/4er) in 13 games. He also went 6-2 with seven saves and a 3.48 ERA in 43 minor league appearances in 2013, striking out 69 batters in 54.1 innings of work between Double-A Jacksonville and New Orleans.

Originally signed by the Marlins as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic on 5/25/05, Caminero has gone 22-11 with 27 saves, 451 strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA (369.1ip/154er) in 247 professional games (four starts).
