Sharon Robinson To Attend RCF Function Wednesday
To Speak At Urban Youth Academy In Roselawn
CINCINNATI (Feb. 9, 2015) - The Cincinnati Reds and the Reds Community Fund are proud to host Sharon Robinson, the daughter of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson, on Wednesday, Feb.11 at 7:30 p.m. at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy in Roselawn.
Ms. Robinson will talk about her father and help students craft and edit their own essays for the national Breaking Barriers: In Sports, In Life Essay Contest.
The Breaking Barriers Essay Contest is a chance for students from across the U.S. and Canada, in grades 4-9, to write an essay and share their personal stories about how they use Jackie Robinson's nine values to face their own barriers: Citizenship, Commitment, Courage, Determination, Excellence, Integrity, Justice, Persistence and Teamwork.
The Breaking Barriers: In Sports, In Life program, in partnership with Scholastic, is generously supported by Major League Baseball and Church & Dwight, maker of Arm & Hammer and OxiClean products.

About Sharon Robinson
Ms. Robinson is an educational programming consultant for Major League Baseball. In this capacity, she oversees school and community-based educational programs. Breaking Barriers, In Sports, In Life is the department's core program; it is a national character education program designed to empower students with strategies to help them face obstacles in their lives. The message is delivered by examining the values demonstrated in the lives of Jackie Robinson and many of today's baseball stars; since its inception in 1997, the program has reached over fourteen million children across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Prior to joining Major League Baseball, Ms. Robinson had a 20-year career as a nurse-midwife and educator. She has taught at such prestigious universities as Yale, Columbia, Howard and Georgetown.
