Indians Sign LHP Bruce Chen

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent LHP BRUCE CHEN to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training camp.

Chen, 37, has spent the last six seasons with the Kansas City Royals since 2009, posting a mark of 47-43 with a 4.53 ERA in 156 games/113 starts (718.2IP, 753H, 362ER). He posted double-digit win totals over three straight seasons, 2010-12, finished tied for the A.L. lead in starts (34) in 2012 and went 9-4 with a 3.27 ERA in 34 games/15GS (121.0IP, 107H, 44ER) for the Royals in 2013. He owns a career Major League record of 82-80 with a 4.58 ERA in 398 games/225 starts with ten Major League teams since debuting with the Atlanta Braves in 1998. The native of Panama City, Panama leads all Panamanian-born pitchers in MLB history in starts (225) and innings (1525.2) and is tied for first in wins (82) with Mariano Rivera.

The Indians now have 22 non-roster spring invitees.
