Alex Gordon to Appear at Youth Tournament; Benefitting Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

KANSAS CITY, MO (April 30, 2015) - The Kansas City Royals return to Kauffman Stadium to host American League Central teams, the Detroit Tigers (April 30-May 3) and Cleveland Indians (May 5-7). Four-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner Alex Gordon will appear at a youth tournament on Saturday, May 2. General Manager Dayton Moore will also launch his book, More Than a Season, during the off day of the homestand on May 4.

In addition, Royals Charities is giving fans the chance to win their very own American League Champions ring (photo attached)! Fans can go online to be entered into the sweepstakes. ·        Green Team - Fans are helping the Royals go green! During select games throughout the season, local organizations and volunteers who sign-up to be a part of the Royals Green Team, sponsored by Republic Services, will help collect aluminum and recyclable plastics at the stadium gates as well as throughout multiple innings of the game. Each volunteer receives a t-shirt and is able to enjoy the game after their duties are completed. For more information, visit www.royals.com/greenteam

·        Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association host a silent auction near Guest Services on the main concourse from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. Unique auctions will take place during each game of this series.

Saturday, May 2 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.

·        Alex Gordon to Appear at Youth Tournament - The first-ever Alex Gordon Classic to benefit the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation will take place May 1-3, and the left fielder will make an appearance on Saturday. Starting at 10:35 a.m., Gordon will speak to the 120 teams from across the Midwest who participate in the tournament, then meet the top four teams who raised the most money for the foundation leading up to the tournament. Later that night, the top two fundraising teams will watch Royals batting practice and will be on-field before the game with Papa John's, who will present a check from the proceeds from the 2014 Alex Gordon Double Deal.

Sunday, May 3 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

·        Play Sun Smart - The Royals join Major League Baseball and the American Academy of Dermatology for Play Sun Smart Day. Fans can learn about skin cancer prevention, symptoms and treatment from skin cancer experts at Gate D prior to the game. In addition, a special pregame presentation will feature survivors and sun safety tips. The family of the late Royals Hall of Fame pitcher Paul Splittorff will be honored in the Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat for their efforts towards skin cancer prevention.

·        UMPS CARE - The Royals partner with Major League Baseball umpires to offer memorable baseball experiences for children awaiting adoption and at-risk youth in mentoring programs. The children receive a VIP experience including complimentary tickets, a baseball goody bag, and the unique opportunity to step onto the field for a souvenir baseball and photo.

Monday, May 4 - Royals Off Day

·        Dayton Moore Appearance and Book Signing - Royals General Manager Dayton Moore will host a pre-launch for his book, More Than a Season, at the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Moore will join co-author Matt Fulks on stage for a discussion and question-and-answer session, followed by a book-signing. In addition, a ticket-only event will take place from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. For $50, fans will meet with Moore, receive a personalized autographed book and have the opportunity for priority seating. ·        Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Thursday, May 7 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.
