Dodgers acquire Matt West from Blue Jays

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today acquired right-handed pitcher Matt West from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations and moved left-handed pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu to the 60-day disabled list.

West, 26, has allowed just one unearned run in 12.1 scoreless innings for the Blue Jays' Double-A New Hampshire affiliate in the Eastern League this season. The Houston native also has one save and 17 strikeouts against just four walks in his seven appearances.

In five minor league seasons, the converted third baseman is 6-9 with a 3.64 ERA (47 ER/116.1 IP) and 14 saves in 90 games (two starts) in the Rangers and Blue Jays' organizations. West made his Major League debut last season for Texas and appeared in three games (4.0 IP) out of the bullpen in July. West was originally selected by the Rangers in the second round (No. 80) of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Bellaire High School in Houston.

Ryu has missed the entire season thus far with a left shoulder impingement and was originally placed on the disabled list retroactive to March 27.
