D-backs recall LHP Robbie Ray from Triple-A Reno as 26th player for doubleheader

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) recalled left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray from Triple-A Reno to start Game 2 of today's doubleheader at the Colorado Rockies, as announced by D-backs Sr. Vice President & General Manager Dave Stewart.

Ray, 23, will make his D-backs debut and wear No. 38. He was rated as the D-backs' No. 8 Prospect by MLB.com entering 2015 after being acquired from the Detroit Tigers with infielder Domingo Leyba for infielder Didi Gregorius on Dec. 5, 2014.

Tonight is his 10th career Major League appearance and seventh start. Last season, he appeared in 9 games (6 starts) over 3 stints with the Tigers and went 1-4 with an 8.16 ERA (26 ER in 28.2 IP).

In 5 starts for the Aces this season, he was 1-3 with a 4.01 ERA (11 ER in 24.2 IP) and 35 strikeouts, which lead all Triple-A pitchers. Over parts of 6 seasons in the minors, is 25-29 with a 4.26 ERA (219 ER in 462.1 IP), 4 complete games (1 shutout) and 453 strikeouts in 95 games (92 starts).

Ray is the fourth pitcher to serve as the 26th player for the D-backs: LHP Andrew Chafin (Aug. 13, 2014 @ Indians), RHP Zeke Spruill (May 25, 2014 @ Mets) and LHP Tyler Skaggs (May 27, 2013 vs. Rangers).
