White Sox purchase the contract of right-hander Chris Beck; add him to active roster as 26th man for Game 2

  CHICAGO - Prior to the second game of today's straight doubleheader vs. Cincinnati, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Chris Beck from Class AAA Charlotte and added him to the active roster as the 26th man.

  Beck, 24, is 1-1 with a 4.78 ERA (14 ER/26.1 IP) and 18 strikeouts over five starts (two quality) with Charlotte this season. He entered the 2015 season cited by Baseball America as possessing the Best Changeup in the White Sox organization.  

  The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Beck went 6-11 with a 3.54 ERA (59 ER/150.0 IP) and one shutout over 27 starts between Class AA Birmingham and Charlotte in 2014. He ranked among the organizational leaders in ERA (4th) and IP (4th).

  Beck, a native of Commerce, Ga., has gone 24-25 with a 3.57 ERA (144 ER/363.1 IP), two shutouts and 218 strikeouts in 73 games (64 starts) over four seasons (2012-15) in the White Sox organization. He originally was selected by the Sox in the second round of the June 2012 First-Year Player Draft.

  Beck has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 54.

  Following the move, the White Sox 40-man roster increases to 40.
