Major League Baseball to Host Showcase for International Prospects at Rod Carew Stadium in Panama on May 19th-20th

Major League Baseball will host a showcase for international prospects at Rod Carew Stadium in Panama City, Panama on Tuesday, May 19th and Wednesday, May 20th. The showcase, made possible through a joint initiative between MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association to support programs that foster the development of baseball in Latin America, will provide Major League teams with scouting opportunities of unsigned prospects.

The showcase, which will begin at 9:00 a.m. (local time) each morning, will feature currently eligible and July 2, 2015-eligible prospects from Colombia, Curaҫao, Nicaragua and Panama. Scouts from all 30 Major League Clubs are scheduled to attend the showcase.

"I am overjoyed and beyond thrilled to learn that young Panamanian and other Latin American players will now have an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and advance their chances of one day becoming Major Leaguers," stated former New York Yankees All-Star and Panama native, Mariano Rivera. "I want to thank the Major League Baseball Players Association and Major League Baseball for their commitment and dedication to helping support the dreams of young Latin American players."

On Monday, May 18th, Kim Ng, Major League Baseball's Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations, will be available to the media at 12:00 p.m. (local time) at Rod Carew Stadium. Additionally, Caja de Ahorros, the official bank of Major League Baseball in Panama and title sponsor of the national Pitch, Hit & Run competition; as well as Copa Airlines, the official airline of Major League Baseball across Latin America and Canada, will have representatives on hand.

Monday's media availability, as well as the showcase on Tuesday and Wednesday, is open to the media. No credentials will be necessary to attend any of the events.
