Saint Francis and Giants partner to support Tenderloin Health Improvement Partnership

SAN FRANCISCO, May 14, 2015 - The Saint Francis Foundation today announced that the San Francisco Giants have become a Founding Partner of Tenderloin Health Improvement Partnership (Tenderloin HIP) to improve the quality of life in the one of the city's most diverse neighborhoods.

The Giants will work with Saint Francis and Tenderloin HIP to raise awareness and educate the community about a number of initiatives and events in 2015. As a Founding Partner of Tenderloin HIP, the Giants join a number of San Francisco-based corporate and nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to serving the community.

Launched by the Saint Francis Foundation and Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, Tenderloin HIP is a public-private initiative based on public health and collective impact methodologies. For 2015, the Foundation has committed more than $750,000 to support high-impact projects that require additional resources and coordination across multiple nonprofit organizations and government agencies.

"Saint Francis Memorial Hospital and the Saint Francis Foundation are doing terrific work by bringing together many stakeholders to solve complex and long-standing problems in the community," said Larry Baer, Giants President and Chief Executive Officer. "Our participation in Tenderloin HIP complements the many relationships we already have with our community partners in the neighborhood."

The mission of Tenderloin HIP is to align the efforts of more than 150 nonprofits, government agencies, and corporate partners currently working to improve the health, safety and well-being of the Tenderloin. Among the recent initiatives led by Tenderloin HIP are the programming in the newly reopened Boeddeker Park and the expansion of the Safe Passage initiative for children and adults.

"The Giants are an outstanding community partner whose resources will be invaluable to Tenderloin," said Kevin Causey, President of the Foundation and head of Tenderloin HIP. "With the support of the Giants, we will continue to improve the

Tenderloin by inspiring community stakeholders to contribute their particular expertise to solve complex problems bigger than any one organization."

The first event of the partnership is Knock It Out of The Park, a special fundraiser for Tenderloin HIP on June 4 at AT&T Park. The event will feature food, music, a silent auction, and a chance to be on the field at A&T to play catch, run the bases or sit in the dugout. There also will be a home run derby for kids and adults and an opportunity to take batting practice.
