Cleveland Indians to honor Sportstime Ohio broadcaster Rick Manning on May 23, the 40th anniversary of his MLB debut
Outfielder played eight seasons for the Indians, is in his 10th season as color commentator on SportsTime Ohio and 26th year overall on Tribe TV broadcasts
Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland Indians will honor former Tribe center fielder and current SportsTime Ohio color commentator Rick Manning on May 23, the 40th anniversary of his big-league debut in a Tribe uniform.
Manning will be honored in a pregame ceremony, while 10,000 fans at that day's 4PM game against the Reds will receive a replica 1975 jersey courtesy of Shearer's. SportsTime Ohio will highlight the pregame ceremony during its "Indians Live" pregame show starting at 3:30PM.
The man affectionately known as "Arch" was the second overall pick in the 1972 draft out of LaSalle High School in Niagara Falls, N.Y. He played in 1,063 games for the Indians, and had 1,053 hits and a .263 batting average. He stole 142 bases in a Tribe uniform, and won a Gold Glove in 1976, his second year in the big leagues, when he also hit .292 in 138 games.
Manning caught the final out in Len Barker's perfect game on May 15, 1981, and finished his career from 1983-1987 in a Brewers uniform.
He has been the Tribe analyst on SportsTime Ohio since the network's inception in 2006. In his 26th year as a Tribe broadcaster, his tenure is the second-longest in franchise history, alongside Tom Hamilton.
