Royals Select Joe Blanton, Option Aaron Brooks, Place Brian Flynn on 60-Day D.L.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 16, 2015) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has selected right-handed pitcher Joe Blanton's contract from Triple-A Omaha. He will be in uniform (#49) for tonight's game against the New York Yankees at 6:10. In corresponding moves, the Royals optioned right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks to Omaha after last night's game. The team also recalled left-handed Brian Flynn from Omaha and placed him on the 60-day disabled list (left latissimus dorsi tear) to make room for Blanton on the 40-man roster.

Blanton, 34, last pitched in the Major Leagues in 2013 with the Los Angeles Angels. He signed a minor league deal with the Royals on February 13 and made seven appearances (six starts) for the Storm Chasers this season, going 3-2 with a 3.89 ERA (17 ER in 39.1 IP), holding opponents to a .227 batting average.
