1B-OF Kyle Blanks placed on 15-day disabled list

OF Jake Smolinski recalled from Round Rock

The Texas Rangers announced today that first baseman-outfielder Kyle Blanks has been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 20. Blanks underwent a surgical procedure on Friday afternoon in New York to address a pilonidal cyst in the area of his tailbone that has been bothering him for the last few days.

To replace Blanks on the active roster, outfielder Jake Smolinski has been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock. Smolinski (#20) is expected to be in uniform for tonight's game at Yankee Stadium.

Blanks is hitting .322 with 3 homers and 6 RBI in 15 games since being purchased from Round Rock on April 29.

Smolinski is hitting .480 (12-25) with 2 homers and 5 RBI in 7 games with Round Rock. He was optioned to the Express on May 13 after hitting .140 with one homer and 5 RBI in 24 games with Texas in 2015.

With today's moves, the Rangers major league roster remains at 39 players.
