@Dbacks reaches 200,000 followers on Twitter

Team offers 20-hour sale to thank fans for their social support

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) reached 200,000 followers on Twitter today and to thank their fans for their support, the team is offering a limited number of $20 field-level tickets for the next 20 hours and 20% off at its dbacks.com shop.

The milestone is yet another indicator of the D-backs' growing social media presence, as the 200,000 followers make @Dbacks one of the most-followed accounts in the state of Arizona. The team's official Instagram account (@Dbacks) topped 100,000 followers earlier this year and the club's Facebook page has nearly 650,000 fans. Last year, the team launched its official Snapchat account and each platform has seen significant growth, with Twitter growing 52%, Instagram growing 83% and Facebook growing 22% over the past 12 months.

The team's Twitter account launched on April 14, 2009 with its first tweet - the lineup of that day's game. @Dbacks received its 100,000th follower four and a half years later on Sept. 6, 2013. The next 100,000 followers have come in a period of 20 months.

The account was recently featured on ESPN's SportsCenter during a rain-delay exchange with @Rockies and was highlighted by MLB.com when another rain delay led to a Twitter battle of rock-paper-scissors with @Phillies.

In the past three months, the team has generated several topics that have trended locally including #DbacksTBT (for Throwback Thursdays), #DbacksRace (for the team's Race Against Cancer), #ADubTakover (when retired Cardinals player Adrian Wilson took part in a chat on the @Dbacks account), #ChurroDog, #Dbacks20thBday, #35FieldsIn35Days and #FerrellTakesTheField.

The team has also led the way in Spanish-language social media as the official account, @LosDbacks, has more followers than several other MLB teams in major Hispanic markets including @LosDodgers, @LosAstros and @LosPadres.

Earlier this year, the team became the first Major League franchise to launch an Instagram account in Spanish (@Los_Dbacks).
