D-backs make 3 roster moves

Select contract of Saltalamacchia, place Gosewisch on 15-day DL, transfer Hernández to 60-day DL

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) selected the contract of catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia (sahl-tuh-luh-MAH-kee-uh), placed catcher Tuffy Gosewisch on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee ACL injury and transferred catcher Óscar Hernández to the 60-day disabled list, as announced by D-backs Sr. Vice President & General Manager Dave Stewart.

Saltalamacchia, who turned 30 on May 2, will wear No. 8 in his D-backs debut. He signed with the D-backs as a Minor League free agent on May 8, and in 9 games with Triple-A Reno, had 2 home runs and 7 RBI. He ranks among active Major League catchers in runs scored (8th, 323), doubles (8th, 142), home runs (T-10th, 90), RBI (12th, 320) and hits (13th, 576).

Saltalamacchia appeared in 9 games for the Marlins before being released on May 7. He was a member of the 2013 World Series champion Boston Red Sox. He owns a career .240 average (576-for-2,403) with 142 doubles, 90 home runs and 320 RBI over parts of 9 seasons with the Braves (2007), Rangers (2007-10), Red Sox (2010-13) and Marlins (2014-15). He was drafted by the Braves in the first round (36th overall selection) in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft.

Gosewisch, 31, who made his second Opening Day roster with the D-backs (2013-14), appeared in 38 games this season. He had reached base safely in 27 of his 34 starts and in 11 straight games twice (April 6-21 & May 10-25). He threw out 6 of his last 11 attempted basestealers and 9 of his last 20 overall.

Hernández, 21, has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 4 with a fractured left hand. He was selected in the Rule 5 Draft from the Rays on Dec. 11, 2014.
