Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds named National League Player of the Week

Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds has been named National League Player of the Week for May 25th-31st. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

Frazier paced qualifying Major Leaguers in hitting last week, posting a .500 mark (11-for-22) in six games. The New Jersey native's 1.227 slugging percentage and 27 total bases both led the NL, while his four home runs were tied for the most in the league. Frazier also ranked among league leaders in doubles (4, T-1st), on-base percentage (.560, 2nd), hits (11, T-2nd), and RBI (7, T-3rd). His hot bat helped the Reds earn a three-game sweep over the NL East-leading Washington Nationals, as he went a combined 10-for-15 with three homers and five RBI in
the series. In Sunday's series finale, Frazier's three-hit, two-RBI performance led the way to an 8-2 win for the Red Legs at Great American Ball Park. The 29-year-old slugger clubbed a solo shot in the fourth inning - his teamleading 16th long ball of the year - to open up the scoring before adding an RBI-double during Cincinnati's six-run seventh. The multi-hit effort was his fourth in as many games and it marked his second consecutive three-hit contest following a 3-for-4 performance in Saturday's outing. Frazier, who was selected to his first All-Star Game in 2014, where he was the runner-up in the Home Run Derby, currently ranks second among the league's home run leaders this season and his .680 slugging percentage ranks third. This is his first career NL Player of the Week Award.

Other noteworthy performances last week included San Francisco's Nori Aoki (.393, 4 R, 11 H, HR); Colorado's Nolan Arenado (.348, 4 R, 8 H, 4 HR, 10 RBI, .870 SLG); Arizona's Paul Goldschmidt (.480, 5 R, 12 H, 3 HR, .960 SLG); Miami's Dee Gordon (.385, 4 R, 10 H, 3 SB); San Diego's Justin Upton (.444, 12 H, .516 OBP) and Odrisamer Despaigne (1-0, 0.64 ERA, 9 SO, 14.0 IP); Carlos Martinez (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 16 SO, 14.0 IP) of the St. Louis Cardinals; and Pittsburgh's Charlie Morton (2-0, 1.93 ERA, 5 SO, 14.0 IP).
