Mariners recall LHP Mike Montgomery from AAA Tacoma to start tonight's game vs. the New York Yankees

SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced the following roster moves prior to tonight's game vs. the New York Yankees.

• Mike Montgomery (#37), LHP, recalled from AAA Tacoma

• Mayckol Guaipe, RHP, optioned to AAA Tacoma [pronunciation: Michael GWHY-pay]

• Tyler Olson, LHP, reinstated from 15-day disabled list and optioned to AAA Tacoma

Montgomery, 25, will be making his Major League debut tonight as the starting pitcher vs. the New York Yankees. The left-hander was 4-3 with a 3.74 ERA (22 ER, 53.0 IP) in 9 starts with AAA Tacoma. He tossed at least 6.0 inning in 7 of his 9 starts, including 3 starts of 7.0 IP or more. In 5 starts in May he was 3-1 with a 4.02 ERA (14 ER, 31.1 IP).

Montgomery has compiled a 46-50 record with a 4.24 ERA in 164 career minor league appearances (159 starts) in 8 professional seasons. He was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the supplemental first round (36th overall) of the 2008 June Draft out of Hart High School (Newhall, CA). He was acquired by the Mariners on March 31, 2015 from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for RHP Erasmo Ramirez.

Guaipe, 24, made his Major League debut last night throwing 2.1 perfect innings vs. the Yankees. He was recalled from AAA Tacoma prior to the game. In 16 appearances with AAA Tacoma the right-hander was 0-2 with 3 saves and a 4.58 ERA (10 ER, 19.2 IP). He struck out 18 and walked only 3 batters. In 9 minor league seasons in the Mariners organization he has appeared in 183 games (23-20, 3.60 ERA, 321 SO).
