Rangers place OF Josh Hamilton on 15-day disabled list, reinstate LHP Ross Detwiler from disabled list

INF Tommy Field assigned outright to Round Rock; OF Ryan Rua to begin injury rehab assignment

The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has placed outfielder Josh Hamilton on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 1, with a strained left hamstring. The club has also returned left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler from an injury rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Frisco and reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list.

Hamilton has batted .273 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI in 7 games for Texas since he returned from the disabled list on May 25. He was acquired in an April 27 trade with the Los Angeles Angels and played 12 games with Round Rock (AAA) and Frisco (AA) on an injury rehabilitation assignment as he returned from offseason right shoulder surgery. Hamilton is expected to miss approximately four weeks.

Detwiler will be available in the bullpen for tonight's series finale against the White Sox. He began the year in the Texas rotation and went 0-5 with a 6.95 ERA (26 ER/33.2 IP) in 7 starts before going on the 15-day disabled list on May 17 (retroactive to May 15) with left shoulder inflammation. He made 2 relief appearances on a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco, allowing 3 runs in 3.2 innings. He threw 42 pitches in his last rehab game on Tuesday at Springfield. Detwiler made 47 relief appearances for Washington last season, and he owns a career 3.02 ERA (32 ER/95.1 IP) in his 63 career outings as a reliever.

FIELD OUTRIGHTED, RUA TO BEGIN REHAB: Infielder Tommy Field has been assigned outright to Triple-A Round Rock. Field had been designated for assignment on May 30 when Chi Chi Gonzalez had his contract purchased from Round Rock. He batted .195 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI in 14 games during his stint with Texas from May 11-29.

Outfielder Ryan Rua has been sent to Round Rock and is scheduled to begin an injury rehabilitation assignment in tonight's game at Reno. Rua was placed on the 15-day disabled list on April 11, and transferred to the 60-day disabled list on May 5, due to a right heel fracture suffered while fielding a ball in left field on April 10 vs. Houston.
