Rockies Place Rafael Betancourt on Disabled List, recall David Hale

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies on Monday placed right-handed pitcher Rafael Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list with vertigo symptoms and recalled right-hander David Hale from Triple-A Albuquerque. Hale will make his third start of the season in tonight's contest vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.

Betancourt is 2-2 with one save and a 6.30 ERA (20.0 IP, 14 ER) with three walks and 20 strikeouts this season. In 12 seasons with Cleveland (2003-2009) and Colorado (2009-2015), he is 38-35 with 119 saves and a 3.28 ERA (666.1 IP, 243 ER) with 155 walks and 704 strikeouts in 658 games. Since joining the Rockies in 2009, he is 15-13 with 58 saves, the fourth-highest total in Rockies history, and a 3.34 ERA (256.1 IP, 95 ER).

Hale, 27, is 1-0 with a 4.26 ERA (12.2 IP, 6 ER) in two starts with the Rockies this season. This will be his first time on the Rockies' active roster after being added as the 26th man in a doubleheader for both of his previous starts. He was 5-5 with a 3.02 ERA (98.1 IP, 33 ER) in 47 games, eight starts, for Atlanta in 2013 and 2014 before being acquired by Colorado on Jan. 30, 2015. 

Hale went 0-3 with a 5.56 ERA in seven combined starts between Triple-A and Single-A, making six starts for Albuquerque (0-2, 5.97) and one for Modesto (0-1, 0.00). Overall, he allowed 21 earned runs in 34.0 innings with 14 walks, 26 strikeouts and three homers.

The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
